We’re happy to announce that as of today Robert Turley, Jr has been promoted to the position of Head Brewer. Robert started with the brewery over three years ago, as our first assistant brewer, and for the last year has been the mastermind behind our partner brewery onsite at Hydraulic Hearth. He’s mastered the brewing techniques that make our core beers and has demonstrated unique talent and ability in the formulation of several of his own, like The End Is Rye, Alpaca Porter and Dreizhen Pilsner.
Turley will take over brewing operations at all of our locations, including our future brewery location at Jersey and 7th streets. Turley said, “Community Beer Works has given me an incredible opportunity: bringing me on as an intern, hiring me as the brewer for the Hydraulic Hearth brewpub, and now trusting me to oversee production company-wide. I could not be more excited to do this challenging work with these amazing people, and to continue to bring great beer to the Buffalo area.”
Former Head Brewer and founding member of the company Robert “Rudybob” Watkins is moving on to pursue other opportunities, “As I look forward to my next chapter I also reflect upon my fond memories working with the team at CBW and the incredible opportunities they offered me to grow as a brewer, business owner and person. I sincerely cherish my time with CBW. I have no doubt that the crew at CBW will continue to make wonderful beer for Western New York.”
CEO Ethan Cox said, “Rudybob has been foundational to our achievements so far, managing the brewing operations with aplomb. His talents as a brewer are evident in the popularity and quality of our beers, and will undoubtedly be on display again in his future endeavors. We all wish him success moving forward.”
Want to give Robert a pat on the back? You can do so from 3-8 this Friday, February 5 at our brewery at 15 Lafayette Ave, 14213. And in case you haven’t gotten to taste some of the Hydraulic Hearth exclusive beers he’s been making we’ll have a keg of our Dreizhen Pilsner on tap!
