Raising the Roots: Farm-to-Fork Event
October 5, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
On October 5, 2019, Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) will host a new farm-to-fork event, ‘Raising the Roots’, at their recently completed Farmhouse & Community Food Training Center on Buffalo’s west side. From noon-4pm, MAP Youth and local chefs will dish out harvest-inspired morsels and paired local beverages while giving folks a chance to learn more about our local food system.
Event-goers will explore MAP’s farm and new facility while indulging in fresh seasonal foods at various stations, all crafted with a passion for farm-to-fork cuisine. Throughout the Farmhouse & Community Food Training Center, guests will interact with local chefs and beverage purveyors and view demonstrations on sustainable agriculture, urban beekeeping, and our local food system1 as guided by experts including MAP Youth, the teenagers who work at MAP throughout the year. Guests will also have a chance to bid on a variety of food, agricultural, and nature-inspired items and will leave with a full belly (tickets are all you can eat and drink). Discounted early bird tickets can be purchased now through August 25th!
This event promotes the importance of local food and knowing more about where your food comes from. A strong local food system1 supports a regional economy and healthy communities, and that is what Massachusetts Avenue Project and ‘Raising the Roots’ partners are all working towards.
This event is made possible by ‘Raising the Roots’ presenting sponsors, Wegmans & Rich Products Corporation.
A food system is the path that food travels from field to fork, including growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transportation, marketing, consumption, and disposal of waste.
